What is the difference between an electric grill and an electric griddle?

While most people tend to confuse between electric griddle and grills, they are different.

Electric grills have a cooking surface with raised ridges that allow the dropping of fats and juices from the cooked food. On the other hand, electric griddles have a flat and smooth cooking surface.

Additionally, their cooking surfaces bring another significant difference in the types of foods they cook. For example, not all foods cooked on an electric griddle can be cooked on an electric grill.

Now, let’s get to know more about their cooking temperatures.

Cooking Temperature on an Electric Grill

Several factors determine the exact temperature you shall use to cook an electric grill. Below is a list:

  • Thickness of foods
  • The internal temperature of food to be attained
  • The level of cooking to be attained
  • Cooking time of the food

The table below shows different heat levels of a standard electric grill and the effects it causes on foods.

Heat Levels

Temperature

Effect on Foods

Medium heat

325-375 degrees F

Ensure proper cooking inside foods and creates a browning effect on the exterior.

Medium-High heat

Proper cooks the interior of foods and creates sear marks on the exterior.

High heat

450-650 degrees F

It brings about sizzling when food is placed on the grill and creates excellent grill marks on foods

Cooking Temperature on an Electric Griddle

The same factors (highlighted above) that determine the exact heat used for cooking various foods on an electric grill are the same on an electric griddle.

Additionally, caramelization and browning effects differ depending on the heat levels on an electric griddle’s cooking surface.

Below is a table showing different heat levels and their effects on foods.

Heat Levels

Temperature
