What is Sirloin Steak?

The sirloin steak is a beef cut from the rear back portion of the animal between the rump and the fore-rib.

This steak can be further cut into other types of steak such as T-bone and the top sirloin steaks. Due to this reason, most people tend to confuse them.

Usually, sirloin steak is a leaner cut yet has low-fat content and high protein. It has robust flavor, tender and juicy meat.

Let’s now look into how you can make a nice sirloin steak on an indoor electric griddle.

Cooking Sirloin Steak on an Electric Indoor Griddle

Below is a step by step guide on how to cook sirloin steak on an electric griddle:

Defrost/thaw and Season/ Marinate Sirloin Steak

If your steak is stored in a freezer, you cannot marinate or cook it instantly on a griddle. Therefore, the first thing you do is defrost or thaw it until it attains room temperature.

You can let it rest on the counter for about 20 minutes before cooking. Another way is to put it in a plastic bag and submerge it in cold water until it reaches room temperature.

However, you can use warm water instead to accelerate the process. Lastly, you place the steak in the refrigerator overnight: it defrosts the steak slowly and safely.

The other step you must not skip is marinating or seasoning your sirloin steak. Seasoning is a pretty simple process.

All you need is to brush your sirloin steak with a light coat of olive oil, then evenly sprinkle salt and ground pepper. At that time, allow it to rest for about 30 minutes before you place it on a hot electric griddle.

On the other hand, marinating steak is not complicated. You can use ready-made commercial marinades or homemade marinades.

After putting your marinade in a bowl, you should submerge your steak in it. Let it marinate for about 2 hours or put it in a fridge to marinate for long hours or overnight.

Prepare the electric indoor griddle

First, ensure your griddle is clean.

Cooking on a dirty griddle can easily ruin all the effort you put in selecting a quality cut and marinating/ seasoning it. Therefore, clean your griddle first.

Then preheat your electric griddle till it attains approximately 350-400 degrees F. This process should take about 15 minutes.

After your indoor electric griddle is well preheated, you should brush a light layer of cooking oil on it.

However, most electric griddles have a non-stick coat on the cooking surface, and oil is unnecessary.

Cook the steak

If you have properly thawed/ defrosted, marinated/ seasoned your sirloin steak, and preheated your griddle, it’s time to cook.

Use a tong to place your steak on the hot griddle and let it cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Use the same tong to the other side to cook for a similar period.

However, the cooking time and internal temperature differ depending on the doneness you want to attain.

Below is a simple guide:

  1. Well-done - 3 minutes on each side and 160- 200 degrees F
  2. Medium – 2 and 30 seconds on each side and 150- 160 degrees F
  3. Medium rare- 2 minutes on each side and 140- 150 degrees F
  4. Rare – 90 seconds each side and 135- 140 degrees F

It’s essential to use an instant food thermometer to determine your steak's internal temperature while cooking on a griddle or a grill.

Remove the steak from the electric griddle

Remove your sirloin steak from the electric griddle once you have attained your preferred internal temperature. Place on aluminum foil and fold it loosely.

Let it rest for about 5 to 10 minutes before slicing it. It allows the juices to redistribute within the steak.

Bottom Line

As you can tell, cooking a sirloin steak on an electric griddle is straightforward.

Get yourself an excellent quality indoor electric griddle, prepare your steak and cook it to the desired doneness.

You must preheat your griddle and allow your steak to rest after removing it from the griddle. Lastly, a tong and a meat thermometer are essential.
