One of the frequently cooked food on grills is steaks. However, there are many reasons a BBQ lover might miss out on grilling activities. For instance, you might live in an apartment that restricts grilling activities, or your local authority prohibits you from using a gas or charcoal grill. That means you can only enjoy a steak somewhere else, maybe a restaurant.

However, you can effectively cook your steak in your kitchen with an electricgrill, even if it’s an apartment. You could achieve a good if not better quality of grilled steaks using this kind of grill. Below is a comprehensive guide on how to grill a steak on electric grills

A Guide on How to Grill Steaks on Electric Grills

There is no reason you should shy away from the most convenient grilling methods. Mastering the art of cooking steaks on an electric grill is not complicated. As a result, a significant number of people are interested in owning one for their indoor cooking. Check out the following steps:

Prepare the Steak

The first step is to prepare your steak for cooking. Start by removing excess fats around the edges of the steaks. It prevents curling and thinning while grilling. However, don’t overcut your steaks and make them too thin. The standard size of a steak should be 1-inch thick.

Then dry its excess moisture using power towels. If you wish to attain a different yet better taste, you can marinate it for about 2 hours.

The last thing while preparing your steak is to add your preferred spices to the steak. It also enhances the flavor of your steak.

NOTE: Ensure food safety while preparing your food.

Preheat the Grill

Start by assembling all removable parts of your electric grill. Then connect the power cord to the power source and switch on the grill to start heating.

Utilize the heat settings to control the heat on the cooking surface of the grill. Additionally, some grills have heat indicators that signal when a grill is ready to cook.

The preheating process of your grill should take about 10-15 minutes, depending on the wattage of your grill.

Time to Grill the Steak

Place your steak on the grill for cooking. How long you cook the steak depends on its thickness. A standard cooking period should be about 8-10 minutes. Do not forget to turn your steaks halfway to ensure all sides cook and don’t burn.

However, avoid placing too many steaks on the cooking surface to create room for enough heat absorption. When steaks are too close, they don’t brown properly.

Additionally, if you’re grilling too thicker steaks, use a higher temperature. You can utilize the sear setting on your electric grill for such steaks.

Check on the Steak’s Temperature

Checking the temperature of the steak is vital if you want to eat well-cooked meat. It also helps you decide when to remove the steak from the grill.

This process is carried out using a digital thermometer or dial thermometer. How do you do it anyway? You place a thermometer’s tip on the steak.

Usually, a thermometer should read a minimum temperature of 145F and medium temperature of approximately 160F for an inch-sized steak.

Let it Rest

Once your steak is ready, remove it from the grill. Let it rest and cool down for approximately 5 to 10 minutes before you serve. It does not only cool down but also acquires more flavor.

It’s a good idea to wrap it with loose aluminum foil during this period to prevent all the heat from escaping before you serve.

Also, switch off your grill. Allow the cooking surface area to cool down before you clean and store it.

Bottom Line

As you can see from the above guide, an electric grill is an ideal cooking appliance that will cook your steak as you do on other cooking techniques. It’s a straightforward process. However, it can be slightly time-consuming than the charcoal or gas grilling techniques.

While grilling your steak on an electric grill, temperature control is critical to prevent burns or undercook your steaks. Also, your grilling skills might take into account how good your steaks taste.

The good thing about electric grills is that they are designed with significant features that make grilling much easier.
