Grilled potatoes in foil packets are one the easiest recipes to prepare on your indoor electric grill or when camping. It’s a favorite meal for many people during summers. Cooking vegetables in a packet foil is pretty easy and quick and so are grilled packet potatoes.
How do I grill potatoes in foil? Slice your potatoes, place them in a foil, fold it, and grill. It’s an easy process. Keep reading down here as we take you through a step-by-step process on how to go about it.
Among other things you need for this task are:
Start by washing your potatoes. You may opt to peel off the skin or leave it: it’s edible. Then slice them to about ¼ inch thick.
Others decide to cook the potatoes as a whole, no slicing. However, cooking them as a whole will take a long to cook well. Additionally, you can cut them into wedges.
The next step entails seasoning potatoes with olive oil. Then place them in a large bowl and add other ingredients, i.e., chopped garlic cloves and salt. Again, you may use your favorite seasoning. Lastly, mix everything very well.
Cut a big piece of heavy-duty foil from the roll. If you have a lot of potato slices, you may opt to cut enough pieces of foil to make a number of foil packs/ packets. Basically, make enough packets for your potatoes. Each piece should measure about 10-12 inches long.
Place your seasoned potatoes on the center part of each piece of aluminum foil.
Time to make the packets! Fold one end to the center and do the same to the other. Then fold the other two sides to the center to completely seal the packet. Generally, you’ll be folding the foil like you fold a small present. Repeat this process to make other potato packets.
You should also use a knife to poke about three small holes on each packet (It’s optional).
Now, it’s time to work on your grill. First, ensure your electric grill’s cooking surface is clean. Then preheat it for about 10-15 minutes to medium heat
Once the electric grill is well heated, grill the potatoes in the foil packets. Place potato packets on a grill for cooking.
Ensure you flip your potato packets regularly, i.e., approximately after 5 minutes. Use a metal tong to prevent burning your fingers. Let then for about 10-20 minutes over medium heat.
Use a knife and tong to open one of the packets to test if the potatoes are cooked. However, you do it once you remove the packets from the grill. Well-cooked potatoes are tender.
After your potatoes are cooked, remove them from the packets from the grill and carefully open them.
You sprinkle your chopped parsley over it as you stem to escape. After a few minutes, it’s ready, and you should serve.
Voilà! It’s that simple.
Soaking potatoes before grilling is not necessary. All you need to do is wash them, slice and then season with olive oil, especially when cooking in foil packets over a grill.
However, you can soak potatoes if you prefer to remove the excess sugar and enhance the crispness.
Before placing the sliced potatoes on the foil, you should consider using a nonstick cooking spray on the foil.
